HOME WORK – EFFECTIVE REINFORCEMENT RATHER THAN A RIGOROUS REPETITION

Home work is reinforcement to ensure more practice for better learning and to encourage creativity through special projects.

It is an opportunity for parents to remain aware of their children’s progress and help them succeed not only at school but eventually in their lives.

Children would like to have some relaxing time after a busy school day. Some parents however take home work as a heavy burden and don’t spare their children for anything else before completing the home work. It probably is not 100% of parents fault because some schools believe in too much home work and sell this as their strength. However in reality quantity can not automatically translate to quality.

Being parent you need to be mindful of the fact that home work must not consume an equal amount of time at home which they have already spent at school. The primary learning is suppose to take place during the 6 hours of school day. The purpose of home work therefore is reinforcement of same concepts through more practice at home, preparation for next class or encouraging self learning and creativity by giving out a special projects.

They would certainly need help as it is difficult for kids of primary or secondary school to accomplish all on their own. Therefore parents should be able to work with their children and use homework as an opportunity to remain aware of their children’s progress. With interactive engagement children feel happy and encouraged to share their learning and achievements at school.

Never underestimate a child who requires extra time and effort since it is a fact that every child posses some special skill – a special gift but may not be able to do well in all areas.

Many of world’s renowned people failed to do well in academics like Einstein, Darwin, Bill Gates, Jack Ma but their names will always be remembered in human history.

Being parent, it is your responsibility to understand your child, his/her special skill (gift), his academic struggle and and arrange required assistance to help relieve the unnecessary pressures.

Teachers encourage practice at home because reinforcement is necessary. It is necessary to better understand the concepts. It is necessary because all children in class are not at the same level and teacher can’t assist beyond a certain level as teacher has to manage all students in the class. It is a fact that some children can achieve more in less time but some may need extra effort and time. It however doesn’t mean that you underestimate a child who requires bit of extra time and effort since it too is a fact that every child posses some special skill – a special gift but may not be able to do well in all areas. Many of world’s renowned people failed to do well in academics e.g., Einstein, Darwin, Bill Gates, Jack Ma etc. Being parent, it is your responsibility to understand your child, his special skill (gift), his academic struggle and short comings and arrange for assistance to extend required support to help him achieve his goals.

Key factor here is that reinforcement should be of same concepts as taught at school. Change in technique can further confuse a child.

No one can understand and support your child better than you. It can yield more effective results however be prepared to arrange a specialized tutor in case you are faced with time restrictions or not able to fully help your child for any other reason. Key factor here is that reinforcement should be of same concepts as taught at school. Change in technique can further confuse a child. Keep in touch with teacher or if you decide to hire a tutor then have him/her work with teacher to make sure that they are on same page and following same methodology.
