The average teething age in babies is around 6 months but for various reasons it can be early at 3 months or late like at 18 months and few rare once may born with teeth. Parents need to be aware of the fact that all these variations are absolutely normal.
Teething normally starts with two lower central teeth called incisors. Front eight teeth, four upper and four lower, are called incisors. They are called incisors because of the sharp cutting edges ends. The next to appear are four upper incisors. On average the first two lower incisors appear at age of 6 months and the next four upper incisors appear between 6 to 12 months. The process takes a break here for almost 6 months before the next set of teeth start appearing again.
The late teething could sometimes be due to some diseases but the chances are rare. Therefore parents need not to be worried if their baby is toothless even at the age of 18th month. You may consult your pediatrician to get professional advice but keep in mind that delays are normal and is only result of difference in child development process. The late teething mostly is hereditary.
